AUGUST 9, 1999 I think it was around my Jr High Era I remember staying up super late durIng the Attitude era to watch RAW IS WAR. I had to watch this with very low volume because if my parents knew I was still up on a school night they would shut off my tv and I would miss it. There was no you tube or downloads so If I wanted to see a "replay" there was none, just a highlights show on Saturdays that Todd Pettengill would host and it suuuuucked.
I remember there was no rumors or spoilers (that I knew of) going around that Jericho was jumping ship to the WWF from WCW. I saw the millenium clock countdown week after week not knowing what it was so when the count down ended I MARKED THE F*** OUT when I saw the name JERICHO flash on the screen and the crowd went crazy and to this day I think it was the loudest pop for a wrestlers debut I have ever heard. So the tv is on low and I see him come out and I punch my bed out of how hyped I was because I couldn't scream YES!!!! (pre Bryan era).
Brings me to my point with all this new SMARKS ruining the WWE for me these days. Yelling Husky Harris during Bray Wyatt matches, or yelling Goldberg during Ryback matches. Those people need to shut the F*** up. I loved not knowing who was going to surprise us this week on RAW. When it was leaked that Hogan was back on RAW on Monday I was pissed. I would of loved to see him just randomly come out and shock the world! I miss the days wrestlers would jump companies and you never saw it coming. Now everything is "announced" and I'm never surprised anymore. I can only hope for good matches these days which don't come often.
The Pro Wrestling world is in need of another company to bring competition to the WWE to remind them what good intriguing entertainment is. Im not a big fan of the "PG" era but I'll still watch it. We need wrestlers from the indies to not go through the NXT phase and just show up and make an impact. Back in the attitude era it was make it or break it. Don't give us Kevin Steen 1 year after he signed and call him "The Bulldozer". Tell the people who he his and let him explain why he's here. Bring in Prince Devitt and just let him be....himself. What we really need is a breathe of fresh air and it wouldn't kill you to leave us every week wondering OMG what is going to happen next week.
